Our Unique States of America (OUSOA): Voices & Visions was created to celebrate those stories and preserve them for future generations.

Through books, interviews, photography, video, podcasts, and personal experiences, OUSOA seeks to document the people, places, products, culture, and spirit that make each state uniquely American.

As our nation approaches and celebrates its 250th Anniversary, we believe there has never been a more important time to capture the voices of America—not just from major cities and famous landmarks, but from small towns, local businesses, family farms, classrooms, main streets, and communities across all fifty states.

Don Nelson

Don Nelson is an entrepreneur, marketer, storyteller, and lifelong student of American culture.

Throughout his career, he has helped build brands, launch businesses, and create meaningful connections between organizations and their audiences. His experience spans marketing, e-commerce, media development, business strategy, and emerging technologies.

Yet one belief has remained constant:

The most powerful stories are found in ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Inspired by America's approaching 250th Anniversary and a desire to preserve the voices and experiences that define our nation, Don founded Our Unique States of America to create a living archive of America's people, communities, traditions, and future.

His vision is rooted in a simple idea:
